The work "Lawyer for Torturers" is one of the most powerful pieces in Cassou's Judicial Series. True to his "painter-fabulist" style, she addresses a major ethical issue: the right to a defense, even for the indefensible.
In this painting, Cassou explores the tension between the lawyer's professional role and the nature of his clients' crimes:
-The paradox of the robe: The lawyer is depicted in his formal attire, but his expression or posture betrays the moral weight of his mission. Cassou emphasizes that the lawyer does not defend the crime, but the individual, while also highlighting the discomfort of this position.
-Irony and the grotesque: As is often the case in this series, the features can be slightly caricatured to underscore the absurdity. The artist poses a question to the viewer: how can justice remain calm and procedural in the face of the horror perpetrated by torturers?
-The humanity behind the monster: True to her intention of revealing the human soul, she does not judge the lawyer. Rather, she shows the solitude of the one who must speak for those whom society has already morally condemned.

Dans cette toile, Cassou explore la tension entre la fonction professionnelle de l'avocat et la nature des crimes de ses clients :
